What is the Levelpath MCP Server?
MCP, Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets an AI application connect straight to another system and work with what's inside it. The Levelpath MCP server publishes the Levelpath public API as a set of tools your AI client can call. Instead of pasting data into a chat window, this connection stays live. The MCP server reads what's in Levelpath at the moment you ask, keeping your information current as things change.
Ask where your contract consolidation opportunities are, and get back a plan. Ask where your team's time is being spent, and get an analysis built from real cycle times. Tell it to set a contract as active, and it does that too, without you having to open Levelpath and change it manually.
AI Agents still live inside Levelpath and do the work there: drafting RFPs, scoring responses, routing contracts, and flagging renewals. The MCP server answers a different need, bringing your full Levelpath record into an outside model so you can ask questions that cross every object at once.

The breadth of your full record comes from the supplier graph, the unified system of record within Levelpath. A supplier who shows up in your supplier list, in three active contracts, and in an open sourcing event is one entity in the graph rather than three rows in three systems. Some questions have no record to look up. They need a model to read across all of the context and provide information like:
- Look at all my contracts. Where do I have consolidation opportunities?
- Where is my team spending its time? Figure it out based on cycle time and steps.
- Show me contracts renewing in the next 90 days and write up the effort it would take to work them.
The consolidation question might come back with duplicate order forms under a single supplier, the same service bought from three different firms, or overlapping payment processors. It only takes a few minutes in a normal AI chat, using real Levelpath data.
Act: Updates Without Opening a Record
The MCP server writes as well as reads, so the same conversation that answers a question can change the record. You can ask for it to:
- Set this contract to active.
- Add a contact for this supplier.

What the MCP Server Can Do Today
Today the Levelpath MCP server reaches the records procurement teams work in most often, with read and write access to nearly all of them.
- Read and write: contracts and contract types, legal, commercial, and payment entities, risk issues and risk reviews, users, catalogs, attachments, and source system labels.
- Read only: workflows and workflow executions, plus field definitions for any record type, including your custom fields.
The next step for the MCP will be the ability to trigger a workflow, you can already inspect a definition and see what ran.
Every question the model can ask is bounded by what the person asking is permitted to see, so an agent never sees an action it can't take. Admins control access for the whole tenant, and it's off by default. Turning it on is quick: an admin switches MCP access on, each person connects their AI client and approves the connection once, and that's the setup.
